Q1 : How many ANSI lumens do I need to get a good image? It depends on your room lighting conditions and screen size. As a rough guide, a rating of 150 to 300 ANSI lumens (the brightness of three-tube CRT projectors) is adequate with a 60" diagonal screen with room lights off, but you should look for something in the 700 - 800 range for a 100" to 150" screen with lights dimmed, and at least 1200 ANSI lumens when you go to a 300" screen or want to project in bright lighting conditions.
Q2 : How do I know which projector is right for me? Our projector rentals page offers short descriptions and basic uses of each projector type. However, we know this does not answer all your questions. You can reach us at info@presentationsolutions.ca for more information.
Q3 : How do I find out what I need to connect the InFocus projector to my computer? Most computers require the M1 to VGA cable that comes standard with most InFocus projectors. If your computer does not have a 15-pin VGA connector, we suggest consulting your computer manufacturer's user guide or web site.
Q4 : Are your projectors compatible with Apple Macintosh computers? Yes, all InFocus projectors are compatible with all Apple Macintosh computers. Some Macintosh computers may require additional adapters that you can purchase through an authorized Apple reseller.
Q5 : What are other names for Multimedia projectors? Multimedia projectors are also commonly known as LCD projectors, DLP projectors, data projectors, digital projectors, computer projectors, video projectors, DVD projectors.
Q6 : What is the difference among SVGA, XGA and SXGA projectors? XGA (Extended Graphics Array) projectors have a higher resolution, 1024 x 768 pixels, compared to SVGA projectors, 800 x 600 pixels. This means that XGA projectors produce a clearer, sharper image. SXGA(Super Extended Graphics Array) is a A high-end video standard, with 1280 x 1024 resolution.
SVGA resolution projectors are suitable for presenting texts, simple graphics and PowerPoint slides.
XGA resolution projectors are suitable for advanced graphics, vidio, spreadsheets and large-screen images.
SXGA resolution projectors are suitable for extremely detailed images, such as engineering drawings or CAD.
Q7 : What is the difference between LCD and DLP projectors? DLP (Digital Light Processors) and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) are two competing technologies used in multimedia projectors. Most multimedia projectors use LCD technology. However, in the last few years many manufacturers have switched to applying DLP technology. Generally, there is no a noticeable difference between these two technologies.
Q8 : What is lumen? Lumen is the unit of measure for the light energy which flows in air. The total light output from electric sources is expressed in lumens.
A1100 lumens projector, for example, is appropriate for use with a small audience in a room where the lights are dimmed. For larger audiences ,brighter venues or detailed images like spreadsheets you need brighter projectors with higher lumens. You may use following table helping you choose the right projector for your presentation.
Projector Brightness (Lumen)
Audience Size
1300 lumens
up to 25
2000 lumens
up to 75
3000 lumens
up to 150
4000 lumens
up to 300
6500 lumens
up to 500
Q9 : What can I connect to the projector? You can connect projector to a laptop or desktop computer (PC or Mac), DVD player, VCR, video camera or even a document camera.
Q10 : What is the contrast ratio? The contrast ratio is the ratio between the brightest bright and darkest dark image a display can reproduce. Projectors with a high contrast ratio (1500:1 or higher) are very good for showing pictures, video, or any presentation with lots of color. A higher contrast ratio also means that the projector is better able to differentiate fine details in color.
